Happy Anniversary!

So this is my one year anniversary of blogging. My how time flies! Seems just like yesterday I posted something new! Ha,ha. Unlike other blogs that I read in blogland I will not be having any "give aways" or drawings for prizes...but I will celebrate with a new post. Can't believe an entire year has gone by. The sad thing is I can't even remember most of it. Actually I can't remember what I had for breakfast this morning!
Maybe I'm getting old, maybe our lives are too busy, or maybe life is just too mundane. I don't know. But I do know that I watched and listened to up-lifting and inspiring talks all weekend and feel renewed.
Life is the same around here most days. I do get a laugh now and then at the expense of my kids and sometimes I just get the frustration that comes from trying to raise them to be thinking, respectable, contributing members of society. Oh well. We will just keep moving forward or like I like to tell them, get in, sit down, shut up, and hang on! Enjoy the journey!

A Nice Peaceful Day!

This has been a peaceful day for me. All has been quiet on the home front and I'm grateful for that. I learned something new or I should say I relearned something new. After listening to talks all weekend the one thought that struck me and will become my new motto (at least for now) is a little something Joseph B. Wirthlin said: "Come what may and love it." Just a thought his mother used to say when he was a young man and he said it has helped him all through his life to be happy and keep things in perspective. It certainly is worth a try.

Welcome to my blog! My reason for blogging is two fold...finding other parents with special needs children and a little therapy for myself. I am a mother of a special needs child. My boy is twenty years old but many days he's still just a preschooler. Being the mother of a child with special needs can be quite a rollercoaster ride or to be more exact, it's like driving your car down the freeway at 80 miles an hour without brakes and a steering wheel! It can be fun, enlightening, entertaining, educational and just plain frightening! Some days are great and I feel so grateful to be his mother and other days I just fall into bed at night and think WOW, it sucks to be me!
But hey, this is not my entire life. I also have a husband and a teenage daughter (I know, I know) and I'm a retired (thank goodness) school teacher. I live in a great neighborhood and have good friends and neighbors and great extended family members. Especially my baby sister! I have a few interests and hobbies to keep me busy and sane. One inparticular, is quilting, which is my favorite. I find the whole process of quilting very theraputic. Planning, shopping, cutting, and sewing all help to keep me grounded.
When I retired from teaching school a few years ago, I started a pattern company that features vintage aprons and quilts. All of the patterns are my original designs. I have found that creating something from nothing is very satisfying and can really help my state of mind...especially at stressful times. I really enjoy my little hobby and the business it creates. I look forward to blogging and the emotional relief I hope it provides...enjoy the journey.
