Welcome to my blog! My reason for blogging is two fold...finding other parents with special needs children and a little therapy for myself. I am a mother of a special needs child. My boy is twenty years old but many days he's still just a preschooler. Being the mother of a child with special needs can be quite a rollercoaster ride or to be more exact, it's like driving your car down the freeway at 80 miles an hour without brakes and a steering wheel! It can be fun, enlightening, entertaining, educational and just plain frightening! Some days are great and I feel so grateful to be his mother and other days I just fall into bed at night and think WOW, it sucks to be me!
But hey, this is not my entire life. I also have a husband and a teenage daughter (I know, I know) and I'm a retired (thank goodness) school teacher. I live in a great neighborhood and have good friends and neighbors and great extended family members. Especially my baby sister! I have a few interests and hobbies to keep me busy and sane. One inparticular, is quilting, which is my favorite. I find the whole process of quilting very theraputic. Planning, shopping, cutting, and sewing all help to keep me grounded.
When I retired from teaching school a few years ago, I started a pattern company that features vintage aprons and quilts. All of the patterns are my original designs. I have found that creating something from nothing is very satisfying and can really help my state of mind...especially at stressful times. I really enjoy my little hobby and the business it creates. I look forward to blogging and the emotional relief I hope it provides...enjoy the journey.
